I am deeply saddened by the loss of many lives and properties as a result of the earthquake that struck Indonesia's Sumatra Island. My prayers go out to those who have lost their lives in this tragedy, and condolences to the family members who have been affected by this natural disaster.

He drove directly to the Drepung Gomang Institute, where children offered him a traditional Tibetan welcome.
