Dalai Lama Consecrates Thungyur Lakhang monastry

Shimla, 28 October 2006 (PTI) - Tibetan spiritual head The Dalai Lama today consecrated the ancient Thungyur Lakhang Buddhist gompa (monastry) at Rampur today to mark 2550th anniversary of 'Mahaparinirvan' (enlightenment) of Lord Buddha.
Besides the chief minister V B Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh, a large number of monks were present on the occasion.

Giving sermons to the devotees from different parts of the state, the Dalai Lama said Buddhism revolved around four truths - to know the cause of sorrow, remedies to resolve it, modes to be adopted and salvation - and asked them to follow the path shown by lord Buddha.

He said Buddha for preached peaceful co-existence and religious harmony, the need of the hour.
