Dalai Lama at Sarnath

Varanasi, 17 December 2006 (PTI) - The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama today arrived at the Buddhist shrine at Sarnath here on a six-day visit amid tight security. The Dalai Lama offered prayers at the Buddhist temple and met delegations of monks and other officials at the Buddhist Institute of Higher Studies at Sarnath. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at Sarnath in view of the high-profile visit of the Dalai Lama, a police official said.
The Tibetan spiritual leader would address a three-day symposium being organised by the International Buddhist Federation at the Tibetan Institute of Higher Studies tomorrow and participate in various religious discourses with the monks and other members of Buddhist community during his stay here, sources said.
