Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - This morning, in the sultry pre-monsoon heat, His Holiness the Dalai Lama drove from his residence to the Tsuglagkhang, the main Tibetan Buddhist Temple, in a golfcart. Taking his seat before the throne, he joined several thousand people who had gathered to recite prayers to the Medicine Buddha. The event was organized and led by monks and Lamas of Sera Mé Monastic College in honour of His Holiness’s forthcoming 90th birthday and the Year of Compassion.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to Zandanshatar Gombojav to congratulate him on his election as Prime Minister of Mongolia. “I was able to visit your country for the first time in 1979,” His Holiness wrote, “and I have warm memories of that occasion and of the several further visits I have made since then. I am very encouraged by the interest and enthusiasm that Mongolians, young and old, have been showing in promoting human values.”

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to Lee Jae-myung this morning to congratulate him on his victory in the Korean Presidential Election. “Today the world is passing through very challenging times,” he wrote, “even as there is a growing sense of interdependence and the oneness of humanity across the world. A lasting peace in the Korean peninsula is of vital importance to the entire world.”

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - This morning, the Tsuglagkhang, the Main Tibetan Temple, was decorated with marigold garlands and the courtyard criss-crossed with lines of Tibetan and Buddhist flags. These were part of the ceremony for offering prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life. The patrons on this occasion were former students of the (CST) Darjeeling, the Tibetan Community of New York & New Jersey and the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - Today, under a clear blue sky, and while the early morning temperature was still mild, His Holiness the Dalai Lama rode in an electric golfcart from his residence to the Tsuglagkhang, the Main Tibetan Temple. There he joined an estimated 4000 people, monks, nuns, laymen and women in reciting the mantra of Avalokiteshvara the Compassionate One, following a ritual known in Tibetan as Mani Dhungdrup.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - Almost 500 Tibetan opera performers and their supporters met His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the Tsuglagkhang courtyard today. They belonged to 14 groups who are attending the Sho-tön, the annual opera festival, at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). Singing and dancing vigorously on either side of the aisle through the courtyard, Tashi Shölpa and Gyalu dancers welcomed His Holiness.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV extending his warmest greetings to him on his election to leadership of the Roman Catholic Church. “I am very happy to have met several of your predecessors and enjoyed friendly conversations with them,” he wrote. “Over more than four decades, I have also participated in meaningful exchanges with representatives of different religious traditions.”
